Wells Rugby Club

Wells 1st XV compete in the Tribute Somerset Premier League. After a disappointing start to the 08/09 season they recovered well and their Charter Way ground, became a fortress where few sides scored tries towards the latter part of the season. With a summer refit that is very much still the case and a positive start to 09/10 has seen them get off to a flying start.

The current squad are almost entirely a product of the strong junior section of the club with the majority under 25 yrs of age. Under the leadership of captain Chris Saunders and vice captain Gavin Foster the side have developed a style of play that encourages players to be adventurous and to work for each other. The coaching staff of Paul Cox, Harvey Parsons and Dave Taylor, place an emphasis on keeping the ball alive and playing to our strengths. There is also a desire for training to be fun and varied so we are fortunate to be able to call on the expertise of Bath players Danny Grewcock and John Mallet to assist. We have also formed a partnership with the Wells Boxing club where players take part in a variety of fun activities!!!

The first team is managed by club stalwart Richard Hickman who ensures fines are paid and standards maintained. Players of any level are welcome at training on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, Richard can be contacted via the contacts page for further information.
