Wells Junior Colts entertained Chippenham RFC at Charter Way in a top of the table fixture clash were only able to field the bare 15 players. Wells on top of the league after playing 6 fixture, winning 5 took on a formidable Chippenham side having played 4 and winning 4 was always going to be a eagerly contested fixture.
Wells lost the toss and played down the Charter Way slope looked to impress from the kick off and after an early exchange of territorial advantage looked to have the upper hand, but were caught by 2 lapses of concentration to allow the visitors to strike twice through their very alert winger to lead 10 – 0 after 15 minutes. Wells roared back with 2 penalties by James Cox and on the stroke of half time winger Grady Marsh crossed after the Wells backs showed superb handling to score in the corner, to open an 11 – 10 lead at half time.
The second half; with Wells playing up the slope, and with Chippenham using their full 20 man squad and adding size to an already impressive pack, won ball and showed what an accomplished unit they have become ran in 18 unanswered points and closed out the victory.
Captain and “Man of the match” Will West impressed
throughout, through his leadership and total all round play, although disappointed was proud of the way his side had played and taken the game to the Chippenham side.
