Welcome To Wells Rugby Junior Colts

Welcome to Wells Junior Colts, a side that has been merged between the U/17’s and U/18’s where numbers in previous seasons have been at times low. Registered players at the start of previous seasons have been low, with the stalwarts of the side encouraging players to become part and recruit new members to their team.

Two age groups coming together, areas of weakness have been highlighted by lack of U/18’s in the Squad, these players have decided to play Senior rugby and this has mean’t the U/17’s are having to supply all team players. This season will be a short, sharp learning curve for this side, one that I hope will be taken on board very quickly or there is still a very real chance we could loose a very important age group.

Twelve U/17’s form the backbone to this Junior colts side and with no U/18’s and some U/17’s being released from School commitments after Christmas, if this side can stay together, this will be a very strong unit moving in to next season after the Festive season.
 
We are playing in the Dorset & Wilts Southern League 2, and this has opened the door to sides Wells rugby haven’t had the opportunity to play, Bournemouth, Oakmeadians, Bridport and Swanage & Wareham are some of the clubs that make up this very strong league fixtures.
 
Nigel Frayne and I have decided to rotate the captaincy to create competition for the position, Joe Horton has led the side to date, with 1 cry off from Bournemouth “B” and unfortunately Wells Rugby could raise a side to travel to Bridport on the 16th of October.
 
Zorilla Entertainment have kindly sponsored our kit this season, and will be on display on the 13th November when Wells Junior Colts take on Chard RFC Junior Colts at Charter Way Wells.
 
This season I am pleased to announce that Nigel Frayne will share Coaching duties With a wealth of experience from many years of playing for Wells 1st XV.
 
After early disappointment and low numbers at midweek training, this side has a spirit that will carry them through the season and when able compete at every opportunity with 4 more games this side of Christmas and 11 after, this side can and will produce memorable performances and take this League with a storm.
