A few short sharp words from coach Pete Kennedy at half time turned a competent first half display by Wells into a brilliant one in the second period.

Wells 64 – Winscombe 0

 

Pete Kennedy, Wells’s director of rugby has targeted automatic promotion for the first team and after this exhilarating performance against Winscombe on a heavy pitch with a strong cross wind, only the most pessimistic of supporters would say he is wrong. Especially as top team, Avon lost last weekend.

 

Minehead is never the easiest of places to visit for rugby teams, the home side, know how to play their pitch which has a distinctive slope from touch line, to touch line, but Wells carried on where they had left off the previous week and within five minutes had taken the lead when a catch and drive at a lineout saw Robbie Wiseman get the first of his three tries.
