No team likes to start the season with a cup match. However it was a good opportunity to see both the weaknesses and the strengths of the team, and to assess the areas where we need to work most.
Gordano got off to a great start with three tries in the space of 15 minutes with tries from Oddy, Magroullais and Walder, the last being converted to take the score to 17 - 0.
Earlier in the year, Wells had lost away to Chew Valley by only one point. So there was a hope that the rematch at home might be another close match.
Wells started up the slope and within five minutes found themselves trailing by 5 points. Undaunted, Wells stuck to their game and were soon rewarded with a try from new find, Ed Jackson, following a fine wingers run from halfway through several half tackles to score under posts. This was converted by Lewis Bell and Wells found themselves leading 7 - 5.
