At Under 9's "contact" is introduced to the game for the first time. Coaches may have started introducing tackling during training late in the previous season, but it will now be encountered in games. This can take a little adjustment for some, but it is introduced to the players gradually with the early training sessions having the players on their knees and performing stationary tackles at the start and gradually building confidence as they progress.
Teams now consist of nine players, with three playing as forwards. As well as tackling, players are introduced to rucks and mauls, as welll as 3-man uncontested scrums and 2-man uncontested lineouts.
Coaches for 2009/10 are Simon Tew and Ian Chedgy. Their contact details are found here.
Training and matches are on Sunday's from 10:30 to 12:00, with at this stage the emphasis still more on training than on competitive matches. Parents are requested to stay at the club while their children are training, as the occasional bump may require attention, and coaches will have a whole squad with which to contend.
If there any more boys or girls in Year 4 who would like to join us we would be delighted to see you at a training session on Sunday. No experience neccesary just enthusiasm and commitment!
