About Wells Rugby Football Club

White Strip

A proud community-driven club

Wells Rugby Football Club is a proud, community-driven club with a rich history dating back to 1876. For well over a century, the club has been at the heart of rugby in Wells, bringing together players, families, volunteers and supporters through a shared love of the game.

At Wells RFC, rugby is about more than results on the scoreboard. It’s about friendship, respect, enjoyment and belonging — values that run through every part of the club, from our youngest Minis to our most experienced senior players.

Rugby for All Ages and Abilities

We are proud to offer rugby opportunities for players of all ages, genders and experience levels.

Our senior section includes competitive Men’s 1st and 2nd XVs, providing both high- level rugby and clear development pathways, alongside our fast-growing women’s team, the Wells Angels. Together, our senior sides reflect the club’s ambition, inclusivity and strong team culture, both on and off the pitch.

Our Minis & Juniors section continues to go from strength to strength. We welcome children from Under-5s through to Colts at Under-18 level, with mixed-gender teams up to and including Under-11s. From Under-12s onwards, each age group trains and plays separately, ensuring players develop skills, confidence and understanding of the game at the right pace. Contact rugby (tackling) is introduced from Under-9s, in line with RFU guidance, with a strong focus on safety, technique and enjoyment.

Coaching, Welfare and Player Development

Player welfare sits at the heart of everything we do. All teams are supported by RFU-qualified coaches, dedicated volunteers and appointed safeguarding and welfare officers, ensuring a safe, positive and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

Our coaching ethos focuses on:

  • Enjoyment and confidence
  • Skill development and teamwork
  • Respect for teammates, opponents and officials
  • Creating a lifelong love of rugby

Whether someone is picking up a rugby ball for the first time or returning to the game later in life, Wells RFC aims to provide the right support and opportunities to grow.

Community, Culture and Club Life

Wells RFC is proud of its strong community roots. Matchdays are social, welcoming occasions, and the club thrives thanks to the commitment of volunteers, supporters, parents and sponsors who give their time and energy week after week.

Beyond rugby, the club hosts social events, fundraisers and community activities that bring people together and help sustain the club for future generations.
